Jim's Story:
Helping Kids make the Health Grade
The YMCA - YWCA of Guelph is building strong kids, families and communities – but we need your help. Some troubling news about our children and youth came in recently from our colleagues at Active Health Kids Canada (AHKC). Their annual report card told the sobering tale – 88% of school aged kids do not meet the minimum standard for healthy development of 90 min of physical activity each day. The health implications are chilling. This, say many health experts, will be the first generation of kids that will not outlive their parents. Think about that…your children, your grandchildren. The good news is that the YMCA-YWCA of Guelph is committed to change this, to make the health of our children and youth a priority. We have partnered with Public Health, The City of Guelph and both the Public and Catholic school boards to introduce physical activity and nutrition programs to school age children. These programs make a difference every day but we require a broader partnership to fully meet the challenge, we need your help. I’ve responded to this challenge with our staff and volunteers to “stretch” our campaign goal this year – my part is to raise $1,500 before the end of June through this online campaign. I hope you will consider a gift in support of my challenge. Thanks for listening. Visit my page to donate: YMCAStrongkids.ca and enter my name under locate a storyteller.
